I have read a number of times that welfare mothers in Florida receive $1500 per kid. One guy wrote that an illegal imigrant with eight anchor babies is getting $12,000 per month. Please tell me that his isn't true.

Maybe in a year, but not in a month.

I found it here:

Powered by Google Docs

So, I guess they would get $672/month, $8,067/year.

Can anyone really live on that?

And is it really true that illegal immigrants can get cash assistance? I thought they could only get Medicaid?

Personally I think it's best that you look these things up on the State Of Florida website instead of relying on what you read on an internet forum.

I agree with Granny Sue...don't believe that e-mail from the supposedly disabled Vietnam vet. Check your sources!

Can you live on that? Sure...here's a way

1- find a cheap Section 8 apartment. The Tampa Housing Authority will pay 70% of your rent. Figure 800 bucks for rent...you gotta pay $240 of that, Tampa picks up the rest.
2-Get a roommate that also has a batch of welfare-inducing rugrats and split the rent with them.
3-Apply for food stamps and sell them
4-Go to Metropolitan Ministries and get free food from their food bank
5-So far, you've paid $120 out of your $672. You've also made money by selling your food stamps...easily making your rent payment...figure 150 for that. So far, you're ahead this month, and that leaves you $702 to pay for your share of the power and water and bus fare.
6-Go to charities for toy giveaways, clothing giveaways, etc

Would this be a great life? No, but it's possible, and you wouldn't even have to work.

Sounds like harder work than actually going to a job everyday.

No link, surprise, surprise, although it was "read a number of times."

Let's see. A quick google search for "Florida receive $1500 per kid" found numerous refutations.

This is incorrect. There is a sliding scale for Section 8 payments, the percentage of rent paid is based on income. A very low income person will ahve more than 70% paid, a person on the higher end of the income scale that still qualifies for Section 8 might pay as much as 90% of the rent.
