Wink Thoughts on Melbourne FL for family living

My husband and I are thinking of moving down to Florida and keep coming back to Melbourne. We have young children so good schools are important. Melbourne seems to be up and coming. Just wondering if anyone has any information regarding this area.

Default Melbourne, FL

I just moved from Melbourne. Even though I loved it there, I just don't see anything positive happening there until there is affordable housing, property taxes are lowered and the salaries are higher. It is a nice little town and the schools are nice but if I can't comfortable afford to live someswhere with my kids, then I won't live there. Right now, I'm in the process of moving back to TX where it is affordable and a sense of community. Good luck!

I have lived in melbourne (Eau Gallie) for 48 years. I think it is a wonderful place to live and raise kids.
Check out the schools and such on the internet.

cubs gal, you should come visit. There are good things about Melbourne for sure, but if you are coming from the north it will be the culture shock of your life. Come check it out and see what you think. I've heard Mel High is a great school though

Thanks for the info. We've been down twice in the past year and a half. We did not visit Melbourne yet, it just caught my eye on the internet. I'm coming from the Chicago area and ready for a better quality of life. Too fast paced up here. Want my kids in good schools and safe neighborhoods. My husband is a welder, so we are hoping he could find a job. Anyone know of any particular area that has more industry? Specifically welding?

Are there areas outside melbourne you can recommend as well?
And, one more question....what areas in melbourne to stay away from, since all towns/ cities have those "questionable" spots.
Thank's.

stay away from south Melbourne, anything close to Palm Bay. North Melbourne/Viera are very nice, especially near the water.
