I am considering relocating from Dallas, Texas to S. Florida.

I need to be able to rent a 2 bedroom house for <$1250 month but in a safe neighborhood. We don't care about schools or proximity to our jobs. We are two single guys, it's my son and I and we come from a rather trendy area of Dallas. We are not looking to retire and we don'y have to be right in the thick of things, but on the edge is fine.

We plan a trip soon to consider the move and we would like to drive some potential areas. We don't know anything about anywhere so your suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks
Joe

Much of South Florida sounds like it would meet that criteria, so knowing where jobs are located would help pinpoint a location.

We both can work anywhere. It's only 24 miles from one to another. I come from Texas and 24 miles is not far at all. I'm guessing my work will be in both Laud and Miami so somewhere in the middle might make the most sense. I'm a wedding photographer and will be marketed in both cites. My son is a top gun for t-mobile and can pretty much pick his store anywhere.

My son went to Hollywood for a short time and seemed to like the place. Enough to consider a move. He didn't do any research though and that's what I'm trying to do now.

My thinking is somewhere between Hollywood and North Miami beach just for a central location but we don't want to be more than 15 mins to the beach in any event.

We're two single guys, my son is 27 and we like a bit of nightlife. We're only moving to Florida for the beaches and a fresh start after a a loss of a family member. We tend to like trendy younger and active neighborhoods.

I have been reading on this forum all day and one thing seems clear, you better know your neighborhood or you can move into an area of high crime. We don't live like that now and certainly don't want that in our move. We don't bother anyone, but we don't want to be heckled for spare change at every stop.

Aventura is really nice, and that kinda fits your bill! Hollywood is cool too, and has a neat downtown area, although its more shopping and hanging out than anything else (from what I remember from my few trips down there..)

I'm all about Fort Lauderdale Beach, personally.. if you can find something in Victoria Park or Poinsettia Heights, or even better, on the actual BARRIER island in Fort Lauderdale, that is, east of the Intracoastal waterway and the Atlantic, it would be REALLY cool! The best weather is found closer to the beaches. Better breezes and more bearable temps.

Good luck! I think you're making a great choice!

Hollywood actually sounds good, and I would say east of US1 is the place to look.

Thanks everyone. I spoke to a Realtor today who is going to email me some listings. She said east of us1 too.

Next we'll plan a short trip and see how we like it after we see what kind of house we can get.
