You cant get away from hurricanes anywhere in FL! A cat 4 or 5 storm would still do untold damage even in Orlando or any place in FL. Storm surge wont be a problem inland but wind would do a number.
Forget Tampa, you would see the biggest nitemare you could ever dream up if a cat 5 were to hit 20miles north of the mouth of Tampabay!

there are no places in FL with a guarentee of no storms. Just our regular thunderstorms can be just as scary with tornados sometimes and those usually happen inland when the seabreezes from the east and west coast collide then again on the coast is the greatest impact of hurricane storm surge so like i said, anywhere if FL is vulnerable to severe weather. Probably not what she wanted to hear but it's the truth.
That's why they keep telling us to be prepared to evacuate the storm if it's coming in your direction. at least we can try to run from it if we need to.

Just check a hurricane probability map that shows past storms. It doesn't mean anything though if one happens to come your way. Some areas like Jacksonville don't seem to get hit. But then take like Fort Lauderdale, it is right in the cross hairs and has had like one hurricane that amounted to anything, and that wasn't really that much, in the last 50 years. I would not worry about it.

Tampa has been hit free since 1921, but this could be the year, or maybe Tampa will get lucky another 50years.

Someone on here posted a hurricane probability chart a few months back, maybe they can repost it so you can look.
We are looking heavy in the central gulf side and not worried at all about hurricanes, I looked over that chart and read some info on hurricanes and 90% of the time you will be warned way in advance it is coming and can drive out of the area.
Our plans are to have kits with totes marked and ready to go for the items we treasure and need as well as gas, water and food we are also going to have a pull behind trailer for my truck and will be and can be out of town within 15 minutes of the warning if need be.
Also, the location we choose to move to in Florida will have many various routes out of the area if needed.
The hurricanes will not deter me from moving to Florida, but I am aware of them and will be prepared.
