Default Homosassa, Crystal River, Inverness

I'm retiring next spring and have decided I like Citrus County. I visited Sugarmill Woods in May and really liked the place, specifically the Oak Village section. I didn't get a chance to visit other near by areas like Crystal River or Inverness. Something though that really bothers me are the deed restrictions. I asked the realtor who showed me around to send me a copy since I've seen quite a few negative comments here about them. Where I currently live in Oklahoma City, we also have a HOA but it's not anything like what I've read for Sugarmill Woods! I believe in maintaining my yard (in fact I consider mine to be one of the nicest on my street) my house and my neighborhood and expect my neighbors to as well, but no one here other than the city has the ability force me to cut my grass or water it to make it greener. For the most part I really don't have a problem abiding by any of the restrictions it's just the idea that some busy body could turn me in to the Gestapo because my grass wasn't as green as they expected it to be and then fine me. Is it really as bad as this? Any suggestions of other areas within 10 or 15 miles with nice homes in the 250 - 300k range? NOT interested in Spring Hill and the sink holes...

You can check out Seville AKA The Dunes, It is a development just south of 98 off US19. It changed developers thats why I am not sure if it is Seville or The Dunes. Not too many homes in there yet even though it is a few years old.
It would be Hernando County and does have a HOA but I don't think they are as strict as Sugarmill. The north side of Seville goes right to the Hernando Citrus county line and Sugarmill is very close to the county line so you are right in the same general area.

I just checked and there is only one home available in Seville right now at $309,000, a 3/2/2 with almost 2600 living area on the golf course.

I live in Inverness and i like it here much better than Crystal River or Homosassa. It's a small town but we have the lakes here in town as well. The gulf seems to get overrun with boaters during the summer months where it's a rat maze trying to maneuver in and out of the boat docks and out on the water. My husband has a coworker who lives in Sugarmill woods. He has been trying to sell his house to get out of there for a long time now. He spends ALL his free time trying to keep his lawn within code or he'll get fined. Has to be green enough to match your neighbors. Can't have anything parked in your driveway and so on. I read about the complaints all the time in the newspaper too about Sugarmill woods. we have a section in the newspaper that people can call in and complain. It's quite interesting sometimes. Sugarmill Woods really is THAT bad. We have been in a drought for quite some time down here and Sugarmill woods is one of the places that waters every single day rather than once a week like the rest of us. I don't know what gives them the authority to do so but boy, it irks a lot of people in this county. In my opinion, it's just a bunch of retired people who have nothing better to do than to be nosy about everybody else's business and look for any possible violation they can find. There are a lot of other places you could find that are least restrictive. Of all the places around, Sugarmill Woods i think has the most restrictions or should I say most petty restrictions. there are plenty of homes within your budget range all over Citrus County. You won't have a problem finding a home of that value.

I disagree! I'm not retired, dont nose in other peoples business but I do like the clean environment and neatness that accompanies living in Sugarmill!
I also enjoy the wooded areas on the back and sides of each home (greenbelt) added privacy. Beats some of the zero lot line, cars on the front lawns and noisey neighborhoods you will find elsewhere!
Also we follow strict water usage guidelines here as well. The only lawns that get watered above the restrictions are newly laid sod (new homes) afterall why spend $$$ on lawn to let it die? Dont take anyones word come look around the county like we did...inverness? LOL! See you in Sugarmill neighbor!
