You can also purchase soda syrups at Sams Club. Certain flavors can only be ordered online however. (Diet Dr. Pepper is one). These come in the bag-n-box which are designed to be attached to a true soda fountain, however, I just store the syrup in smaller containers and use with my soda stream. The Diet Dr. Pepper is much better than their Dr. Pete version.

Well $2 if you don't count the tools used. Still, pretty cool.

Yeah, well, it's common knowledge that those drinks don't taste the same as the real stuff.

Common knowledge? Commonly wrong. The SodaStream syrups range from passable to excellent, and there's absolutely nothing stopping you from using whatever syrups you like, including those from Coke and Pepsi.

I tried this refill method yesterday and it worked well. I wrapped my empty tank in a piece of rubber and secured it in a bench vice. I used an adjustable wrench with a piece of pipe on the handle and a sledge hammer to get the valve off, so I didn't have all the banging. 1 good strike and it was loose.

If you can get dry ice in pellet form that would make things easier. Harris Teeter just had blocks though, so I used this guy's meat tenderizer method to break it up. A chopstick is handy for when the funnel clogs.

You'll want to wear gloves and safety glasses.

The syrups do vary...I don't use them often, though, I just make sparkling water. BF goes through a lot of syrup, though...and a lot of carbonation canisters.

Okay, I'm wrong. Me and a million other people know it; you and others don't.
Mostly, (not entirely), I base my opinion on a special report by Consumer Reports.

That's nice. I am basing my opinion on actually owning and using the product.

Why not just buy an off-the-shelf CO2 bottle, and a cornelius keg? The problem with SodaStream is all the proprietary junk. That's how they make their money. Making carbonated water is dead simple, and very inexpensive.
