What are some of the things you like that you can easily get where you live, but are not generally available in other parts of the country? (Specify where you are, if its not shown on your page).
Here, we can always get live Crawfish in season, but they come from Louisiana. Live shrimp are local.
Mexican style Bolilla breads are popular here.
Home made Tamales. People drive around in their car selling them, but they're expensive because they're labor intensive.
Shiner Bock draft beer, at ball games, only a dollar when the designated "beer batter" strikes out.
Pan cubano, Vigo yellow rice (nothing compares), Chifles plaintain chips (yes, there are other brands but I like this brand the best and it's a local company, so is Vigo/Alessi), papas rellenos, "Spanish" bean soup.
Dave's Killer Bread (depending on how far we go, we can buy it freshly baked here)
Monster Cookies
Nancy's Yogurt
Bear Mountain Honey
Sweet Creek foods
Our local organic Willamette Valley wines
Our local microbrews
Our local (Pacific) salmon and other fresh seafood
Our local produce and right now especially our berries... marionberries, blueberries, strawberries, I've never had anything better than Oregon produce, and we've lived all over.
Our really good tap water (comes from pristine glacial lakes)
We've got great seafood here in coastal NC, but from my years in California, what I miss most are:
Super burrito's
Vietnamese food such as pho
Hunan Chinese food, very spicy, and Dim Sum brunches
Freshly caught Pacific salmon
Oysters from Oregon, tiny and sweet
Asian Fusion creations
Alpine hot dogs. Local company in town that provides the hot dogs for the San Francisco Giants. Our version on the Dodger Dog only better. You can get them at local grocers.
Fresh Dungeness crab in season all along the Pacific coast. You can get them on ice in other parts of the country but nothing like heading down to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco or Santa Cruz and getting them fresh as the come off the boats.
Tomales Bay Oysters from several different companies. Again probably have them just west of the Rockies but not like getting them off the harvest boats.
True Santa Maria style Tri-Tip Barbecue.
Sees Candy a California original.
In and Out burgers
Mostly California some Arizona, Nevada and Utah locations.
One of the original four Certified Farmers Markets started in 1979 in California. One of the largest selection of Asian produce, live animals and fish mongers at a West Coast Farmers Market.
Andy's Frozen Custard is the best! It originated in Springfield, MO, but they have recently opened stores in Arkansas and Illinois. But not Texas, and that's where I'm moving! I'll really miss it...
