Hi! I was wondering if there were certain foods/beverages/candies, etc. that conjure up particular memories for you when you see or taste them.

I bought the Wrigley's Hubba Bubba pink tape gum today; I haven't had it in a VERY LONG time! That gum will always remind me when my father had an affair with this one woman. I'll never forget the day when my father, the woman, her daughter, and I were going to/coming from an amusement park. The girl had brought that bubble gum with her; I think that was the first time I've ever had that gum. Not a happy moment, but it's one I'll never forget.

What stories do you have with food?

I can't smell bubble gum without thinking nostalgically of collecting baseball cards.

While chatting about BG. Does anyone remember the BG that was in 3 different colors shaped as a cigar. Pink, Yellow & Green.
I remember camping with our neighbors as a child. They had a son, who had 3 BG cigars. Wouldn't you think he would of shared...NOPE.
Even tho he was 2 years older than me...if he was at my house after dark playing, I would have to walk him home at night.(Lived in the Stixs) Go figure.... a girl having to walk a boy home cause he was scared of the dark. Yet he wouldn't share those BG cigars. Hmmmm...

That's what I thought of when you mentioned BG.

When I think of jello - I think about my junior year in college when I had mono over the winter holidays. Everyone was eating turkey and mashed potatoes and stuffing and the like - and I could only eat jello because my throat and tonsils were so swollen that I couldn't eat anything else!

Great thread...thanks! I have many happy memories attached to donuts...My Dad went to union meetings once a month on Friday nights...He always stopped and bought a dozen donuts at "Winchell's" on his way back home...It was a big deal because my Mom was a diabetic and we didn't have sweets in our house very often...Those donuts were like "gold" to me and my Dad never forgot...When he got home we all sat around the table together drinking hot chocolate and eating those treasured donuts...My Dad clued us in about the union meeting and let us know if he might be laid-off or go on strike soon etc. When new contracts came up things could get sticky...He worked as a meat-cutter in LA packing houses....Anyway donuts still have a special meaning for me even today. They always remind me of my Dad's love and how my Mom and I rallied around him when he came home from union meetings way back when....

Screaming Yellow Zonkers, pink popcorn rectangles and cracker jacks remind me of going the the San Francisco Zoo and Golden Gate park as a kid with my mom and dad before they divorced when I was 7.

Gnocci reminds me of Thanksgiving as a kid. My Italian family always made Italian food alongside the traditional turkey dinner. It was always fun hearing stories about our relatives in the old country.

PB sandwiches & Lipton chicken noodle soup was a constant childhood lunch.

It's my go to comfort food.
