I use these all the time when I cater and it turns out absolutely delicious.

It sounds like the way you make your sauce is very tastey.
I used this post:

tomato sauce with onion and butter | smitten kitchen

I believe it's a Marcella Hazan recipe originally. I just don't think the brand of tomatoes I used was tasty enough to make a great sauce essentially on its own. (I've never eaten the really fancy schmancy expensive San Marzano tomatoes.) Or maybe I'm just too high maintenance to enjoy something with 3 ingredients.

Now I want some of my regular marinara!!

Debsi, I totally agree with you about the sauce, I would have to think that it is totally bland. I noticed thathat the can in the pic. has the green band, whole tomatoes, but the recipe says to crush the tomatoes on the side of the can. I get the can with the blue band that is already crushed. Adding the "salted" butter I feel, is not adding enough salt but it is adding "fat". I, as you, add the carrot for sweetness, red wine plenty of garlic & diced onion, lots of fresh basil and other seasonings. Thank you for that link, and I won't be making that sauce either.
