Oh really? They enjoy everything?
I don't think so.
You know what I mean. Enjoy tasting foods from different cultures, price ranges, just like trying all kinds of new things...they don't have to love eating it all the time, but they aren't going to stick their noses up at things just because they came from one place and not another.

Eat and let eat.

I personally don't care what another person eats.

I'll edit to add my preferences. For some odd reason I do believe some think I'm a pretentious eater.

I enjoy import beer though I'll drink a Bud Light or Ice House from time to time.
I prefer white wine, room temp. I'm just funny like that.
I prefer fresh or fresh frozen by my own hand vegetables. The only vegetable I will not touch is brussel sprouts. I used to get odd looks when I'd ask for asparagus, artichokes, spinach, arugula... I guess the only vegetables I'm allowed to enjoy are collard greens, mustard greens, black eyed peas, corn, and potatoes.
I enjoy trying different meals from different ethnic groups. I wouldn't say I'm adventurous eater because I wouldn't consciously choose to worms or other bugs. I'll take someone's word on monkey meat, too.

i think the pretentiousness comes out when people feel that what one eats defines one's personality

as for me
i like micro brews but i have no problem with having a six pack of coors light instead (sometimes I want quantity not quality!)
i drink wine but would rather have beer
i like all whiskey but if it's my money i'll buy a good bourbon

(and don't get me started on the microbrew thing)
Oh, get me started! Please! You may never get me away, though ... Nothing I'd rather do than visit new microbreweries and try new kinds of beer.

I'd rather not drink Budweiser, but if that's all that's available ...

Thanks for clarifying, Stan! I misunderstood...

Well, for one thing, I generally don't care what's "trendy" in food at the moment. I eat what I like. Minimalistic dishes using the freshest ingredients seem to be what's "in" right now. I despise minimalism, so I despise the current trend.

On the other hand, I think none of you have ever been to northern Minnesota. It's hard NOT to be a "food snob" here. The majority of the people here (at least working-class and under) have never heard of "curry" or "hummus", and are totally unwilling or shrink from trying those things when presented with them. I remember I took my lower-class friend out to an underspiced Indian buffet (the only one in town). If I remember correctly, he filled his plate up with rice and ranch dressing! I told him, "Why don't you try some of the curries?", to which he responded, "What's curry?" Now, that represents a lack of worldliness and basic knowledge.

I still love fried chicken from Kentucky Fried.
I prefer my beer to be IceHouse in a bottle. After the first three, I'll drink pretty much anything.
I don't like salads all that much.
No pretense here.

If you want crunch in your sandwich, put potato chips in it. Don't laugh---try it. Potato Chips are a wonderful addition to a sandwich.

I don't know why anybody thinks it is "pretentious" to prefer, for example, brown mustard over yellow. There is a difference, you know.

My sister hates mayonaisse, and I hate Miracle Whip. It's not pretentious, I just don't like the stuff.
