Has anyone tried a turduken, what's it like?

There's places that make them, about $85 for a whole, $50 for a half. I doubt we would eat an entire whole thing, so, the half would be better for us.

I also understand they make a varient with a good in there somewhere. I would be curious to try it one year. I also saw one with bacon layered on top.

I had a marvelous Turducken at the Thistle Lodge in Sanibel Is Fl for Thanksgiving one year. Despite my search I never had another I liked. There are mail order ones (horrible), gourmet deli (so so0. Only a place that really knows what they are doing can deliver on this difficult dish.

I have seen them, but never got the courage to try it. Afraid I wouldn't like it but they do look so good! Land and Sea market sell them online.

I made this recipe from Top Chef a few years ago as an alternative to a true turducken...a turducken roulade.

Hulu - Top Chef: Turducken

The chicken mouse made me nervous, but it turned out great. The prep work was probably as involved as a real turducken, but this was more manageable and easy to slice and serve.

They are wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.

We've always ordered them out of Lafayette, Louisiana (after trying several places), but there's now a local place that makes them that we're thinking of trying this Thanksgiving. One Thanksgiving when our son was stuck in NYC for Thanksgiving and hosted an Orphans' Thanksgiving for all of his friends who were in a similar situation (we're talking a bunch of foodies here), we sent one up to supplement the dinner, and it was the hit of the meal.

OOPS---that was meant to read "they make a varient with a goose in there somewhere". It all sounds pretty good. Just this year, I want something different for Christmas, usually I make a ham.

For some reason I haven't figured out yet, the idea of it is repulsive to me. Kind of reminds me of competitive eaters, which repulse me too. Thinks stuffed into other things=icky.
