Movies were a nickel back when actors/actresses were paid what they were worth! Our first McDonald's opening coincided closely with Steven Spielberg's "Sugarland Express" filming in SA! 1972-ish!

If his salary would now be $1000/week, that would be 1000/87*.67, or $7.70 for the same combo today!

I don't know what combo meals cost nowadays, but that seems like a lot for a #1.

In 1967, I had never even heard of McDonalds, I was living a sheltered life in the French Quarter, and fast food was a Muffaletto from Central Grocery. I was out of the country from '68 onward until I saw my first McDonalds, just across the border in Calais, Maine, in about 1977, when I think a Big Mac was $1.25.

At Bob's 19-cent Hamburgers in Salem, Oregon, in 1961, you could get a burger, fries and a drink for 44c. I was making $65 a week.

In case you're wondering, here are the major burger chain in order of the year in which they expanded into multiple-outlet restaurants:

White Castle - '22
A & W - '26
Dairy Queen - '41
Jack in the Box - '51
WhataBurger - '52
Burger King - '53
McDonalds - '55
Sonic - '58
Hardee's - '61
Arby's - '64
Wendy's - '69

I remember getting 15 cent hamburgers from the Dairy Queen in the 1960's. When you ordered a milk shake, it was so thick, they gave you a long handled spoon to eat it with. Impossible to pull it through a straw.

It sounds like back in the day you got decent portions at a reasonable price unlike today. I rarely eat out. The movie divorce american style is worth watching. I liked seeing all the old cars from the 60s.

I remember the early McD's (1960?) having 19 cent hamburgs!

I remember McDonald's hamburgers costing 15 cents throughout the 60's. The Big Mac was introduced in L.A. during the fall of 1967. It came wrapped in foil, and I think it cost 49 cents -- a premium price back then!

Fontucky - I can remember those old-style Jack in the Boxes at the restaurants back in the 60s. I was only in elementary school back then but I could remember going through the drive-thru at Jack in the Box with my parents, and thought it was the neatest thing that the clown could talk and take our order!

I remember those muffalettos from Central Grocery. I wish I had one right now. Yummy!
