$2.89 for a gallon of the cheapest stuff, but only if you buy 2 gallons. With a 5-year old, 2 gallons a week is no problem!

It's around $2.49 here. My kids don't drink as much of it as they used to...I remember it being about four dollars a gallon when my oldest was a toddler, and she went through a couple gallons a week.

I usually get my milk at either Trader Joe's or Fresh & Easy, but a gallon of milk at TJ's is usually around $2.69 whereas at F&E it's closer to $2.99. Not sure why the price difference because they both taste the same to me.

It really depends but I would say MOST is about 2.99 or under. Target, half a gallon is probably 1.89? A gallon is 2.99 (or so). Expensive milk is found in Byerlys which it's about 3.00-3.99, maybe 4.00 or more. Maybe because they consider themselves to be Organic food.

Our milk here in Canada is a little more expensive than milk in the USA. There is a good reason for that. All milk producers here are part of a national milk marketing board. The board sets the rates that guarantees a certain return for the producers. This has created a very stable dairy industry and production is totally tied to consumption. Dairy producers are not allowed any growth hormones at all in their cattle.

I would be very concerned if I was an American giving my kids milk that contains these hormones. Studies have shown that these hormones greatly effect the normal sexual development of kids and especially girls. Girls are entering puberty younger and younger and it's most likely the fault of these unnatural hormones they get in milk that mimic estrogen in the body.

Milk at BJ's was $2.59 a gallon on Monday. It's a little higher at Costco, and the groceries charge $3.48.

It depends where we buy it...sometimes we pay $3.19 and other times 20 cents more, especially if it's in a deli or mom/pop store.

Now tell the other side of the story.

Dairy producers in most provinces are not permitted by law to produce more milk than their allotment which is set by the Dairy marketing boards. That sure does NOT benefit the consumers who generally pay significantly HIGHER milk prices.

Nice stable monopolies and cartels.
