I went to a barbecue restaurant once which served this combination. I thought it was excellent.

Does anyone know of anything you can buy in the stores like this?

I really have never liked beans and franks. Why? They are sweet, mainly. I just don't like the sweetness. ...However, I thought there might be some simple alternative to the dish in the barbecue restaurant.

Have you tried Hebrew National kosher beef franks, par boiled and broiled, served with Heinz kosher vegetarian beans?

Funny - I don't like franks and beans either. But I love red beans and rice, feijoda, chick peas and sausage stew...all of that. Try smoked sausage, like kielbasa - saute it so it browns some. Personally, I prefer a heartier bean like kidney, chick peas or black beans to standard little bbq pinto beans.

I hate most canned baked beans, due to the sweetness factor. I don't like "BBQ" type sauces made with molasses or brown sugar at all. I need savory/spicy, or it's a no-go. But you can make your own beans and forego the sugary ingredients altogether.

I have never served pork and beans from the can without some modifications regardless of the brand.

A good dosage of spicy is needed to get rid of the sweetness. My favorite is cajun power sauce. Cajun Power Sauce - Products

I also like to add some chopped celery to add some additional texture.

Also, I really like andouille sausage in the beans.

Maybe mix up Ranch Style beans with some beef sausage? Ranch Style is closer to the type of beans you find in BBQ restaurants than the sweet pork'n'beans or baked beans.

Andouille sausage and ranch style beans sounds like the combination.

This is my favorite canned bean product because it's not sweet. You should be able to buy them in the international aisle of any major super. They're from the U.K.

There are so many good ways to have beans and franks. Slow grill a kielbasa slice it into rounds and then cover with Campbells pork and beans. Sprinkle liberally with crushed red pepper and cook for a little while.

You might look for a recipe online and cut back on the sweetening agents (usually molasses, brown sugar and honey).

I have found that if you make the sauce a we bit hot that it helps offset the sweetness (I am not fond of sweet either). Also, increasing the vinegar in the recipe by a small amount helps counteract the sweetness also.
