Always season your food well when cooking and adjust for salt after food is cooked and you will find that you don't need that much salt.

I only use Kosher salt and never use a salt substitute like NoSalt. It's loaded with potassium and it will build up in your system and can cause heart attacks.

We use sea salt.
I use a small amount on eggs & potatoes.
Pretty much everything else I use a zesty table blend that kroger makes. We like it much better than Mrs. Dash, even tho I think it's pretty much the same thing...but doesn't have salt in it and cost less.

My heart Dr says that the salt substitutes are worse than a small amount of sea salt.

Fresh tomatoes require salt, and eggs need to be good and salty. Otherwise, I avoid salt, using only a pinch in a meal of four servings, and I never, never use a pre-packaged ingredient in cooking, except maybe occasionally a drained can of veggies, like chick peas. But my night time snack is often saltines or tortilla chips.

Salt is probably the most toxic of all the things that we overindulge in. You don't need to quit cold turkey, just keep gradually putting less and less salt on your food.

I'm a salt lover, but I don't add it to everything the way I used to. These days, I'm more likely to enhance flavor with different herbs and seasonings, lemon juice, olive oil, etc.

I was bad as a kid because I copied my Dad.

Now I use it sparingly, only on certain food.

Potassium chloride salt sunstitutes and "lite" salts are fine for most people except those with some specific health problems and some elderly, but they dont taste very good. Sea salt can be tasty, but there is no real difference in sodium levels copared to table salt. Best for most dishes is to prepare them without salt, then add a dash at the table. For tons of low sodium tips, dig up the LOW SODIUM THREAD in the DIET form here on CD. The foods I really like to add salt on are watermelon, popcorn and fried or soft boiled eggs
