I'm in the Chicago suburbs and I just bought a gallon of skim milk for $2.69 at CostCo. It's over $3 at the grocery store.

3.18 for skim milk at Sam's in Matthews, NC.
Earlier this week I paid 3.99 at the local service station.
I think it is more than either of those at Harris Teeter, but the milk is probably a better quality. Yes it is possible for milk to be a better quality. Check the protein in different milks.

Cost of Living 1st Quarter 2007--I copied this from another post. I have bookmarked it on my computer.

North Carolina is above the national average on food and medical. We in North Carolina take this into account and sometimes grow our own vegetables and go to farmer's markets for food.

3.79 for organic milk (half gallon) in AZ. Fry's has deals for $1 a half gallon of regular milk all the time here.

I've noticed it as high as $3.50 around here.

The increase is a reflection of the outrageous increase in gas prices needed for transporting.
So we're not only getting gouged at the pumps but also in the dairy case
and pretty much everything else thanks to the oil industry!
Well milk is pretty cheap in Germany compared to your prices. We pay about 0,65 USD per liter. But our gas prices surely top everything . 1,80 USD per Liter. I could cry everytime I have to refill!!!

Harris Teeter milk (and other dairy) is cheaper here than at Publix, but most of HT's other stuff is more expensive, and Publix is just down the road from me.
I think a gallon of 1% was $4.20 last week.
Never thought I'd pay that much for milk.
Of course, I never thought I'd cheer about gasoline going below $2.80 a gallon, either.
