Agree too. Also, depending on each restaurant, some servers are required to tip the bartenders, cocktail waitresses,
food runners and bus boys out of their tips. They might calculate the servers total sales for the day and a percentage
goes to other workers.
You are correct when you mention people who leave a very small tip. In other words, it costs the server money to
wait on them.
I too leave a cash tip when using a card and a restaurant shouldn't charge the server any of the credit company's fees.

I tip on to go orders from restaurants, I check the bag to make sure everything is in there first. I may or may not tip at coffee places, I usually do. I can't stand cheap people.

If they bring my food and/or clean up after I tip the same amount as I do formal restaurants. Why? Cause I don't like to be bothered during my meal and they're doing it just the way I like it.

so, what you are saying is: if you go to a fast food restaurant or a buffet and someone does do the removing of your plates or whatever you give them the same tip you would give for full wait service? Either you are very generous or I am a cheap scape?

I tip the same for buffets. They are making the same hourly wage they always do, where I live that's $2.13 an hour.

Never heard of a cheap scape? Cheapskate, I have heard of.

If I head to a buffet where they serve me beverages AND clean my dishes away on a timely basis, I tip 10-15%.

If I head to Panera and they clear my dishes and the kid gets me more coffee, I tip them a dollar.

If I head to the local casino boat where you have to get your own food, your own drink, and you are lucky to ever have your dishes picked up more than once, I tip ZERO. And that is even if there are signs encouraging you to tip. (Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin, IL)

My thoughts pretty much: We all know these kids and in some cases adults work for almost nothing but I tip ased on service not on charity...

Sophialee: you got me on that one, but I tried the right way and the little red underline came up: I probably was a letter off. As for $2.13 an hour in No CA, well my nieces daughter works near Chico and she doesn't make min wage but she makes more than that. Where in No CA do you live and who do you know that works as a server?

I live in Charlotte. I have a few friends who are servers and bartenders, I used to be one as well. The minumum here they have to pay them is $2.13, they CAN pay more but most places don't. I'm sure at places where it's a buffet everyday they make more, but not at places that say just have a Sunday brunch buffet.

Servers at buffets get the same amount of money as servers in a more expensive place. I always tip them the same.

good for you, I am sure some do, I have seen a lot of people who tip nothing in buffets, but I do know from our granddaughter and her boyfriend ( a few years ago) who worked at Golden Corral the normal tip was about $1 per person. They were paid a little over $3 an hour, I want to say $3.40 but I could be wrong.
