The bottled stuff, absolutely not!. On a very rare occasion I might eat one with bearnaise sauce, but not something I would typically choose. My dad puts ketchup on steak. Makes me sick to watch him ruin a good steak. Actually he puts it on all meat. Nothing makes me more angry than to prepare a nice meal, and watch him cover it with that stuff. Might as well just give him a bowl of ketchup and a spoon.
a good steak should stand alone, well with just a sprinkling of sea salt and fresh ground pepper. And flipped ONCE. And left to stand about 5 minutes before cutting.
I'm not a big sauce person for meat, however, at a famous steak house in Florida at the waiter's recommendation, I tried a wine reduction sauce for my filet, wow was he right.

Not to mention he's adding a bunch of unnecessary sugar to his diet. Tell him he's going to get diabetes.
With the dozens of steak/BBQ sauces i see at the super market i'm either missing the point as to what their purpose is or a lot of people are putting a lot of steak sauce on their meat.
Personally i like to put BBQ sauce on my steaks as with out it it just tastes like cooked meat unless its in some way smoked or specially cooked or prepared, two of my favorites is Sweet Baby Rays original and Bullseye original.

If it were only that easy! He's almost 78 years old, has heart disease, moderate Alzheimers, and finds any food other than white breads and red meats to be his mortal enemy.
I figure he's already in overtime. If he want's to ruin a perfectly good steak, that's the least of our concerns.
Forgot to mention, he considers ketchup to be good for him. In his mind, he's eating a vegetable, since it's made with tomatoes. It's kind of like reasoning with a 2 year old (always has been, nothing to do with the Alzhiemers)He always tells me how good it is for him, and insists that I should eat it for all the nutrients, like licopene. Um, no. Just no.
Now he would never actually put steak sauce on a steak. To him that would be blasphemy.

Your dad must have worked for a school system in another life. They too, consider ketchup a vegetable!
I don't........my thinking is, if the cut of meat is good, why ruin it with steak sauce?
I have been trying to convince hubby of this for over 50 years. Give me the real thing, a little garlic, salt and pepper before grilling and lets enjoy the true flavor of the meat.
