The main two are Hy-Vee and Price Chopper, a few Sun Fresh. Hen House is also a presence, but it's smaller and more specialty. We have Whole Foods, but it's on the other side of the metro, and two Trader Joe's are slated to open in the next month, which people seem to be excited about. For big box grocery, we have Super Target and Super Wal-Mart. We also have Aldi, and club retailers like Costco and Sam's.

But the main, everyday grocery chains are Hy-Vee and Price Chopper. I prefer Hy-Vee.

I've been shopping at S&F since I was a kid... what I'm questioning is the Stater Bros part.

We have two Save Marts that are within close vicinity to each other, I'd say about a little over five minutes apart -- weird, I know.

Foodmaxx and Food4Less are a couple mintues apart from each other.

Some rinky-dink asian grocery store, somewhere -- pass.

Winco on the other side of town, closer to the farms.

Costco.

Then we have a lot independents focusing on specific grocery items, probably from local farms -- really small shops and limited things.

Also, lots of fruit stands.

No Trader Joes.

I've been searching for quail eggs ... to no avail

One more to add and I don't know how I missed it since I shop there all the time.

Fresh & Easy

There is also a new WinCo being built near my house on the site of what used to be an Albertsons and before that, a Smith's Food & Drug. I really liked Smith's. Too bad they didn't last long here in SoCal. I'm looking forward to shopping at WinCo when it opens.
