Default Does anyone here own a Big Green Egg BBQ?

I have read that the Big Gren Egg BBQ is suppose to be very good. I have never owned one or even seen one except online. Does anyone here own one and how do they like it? Good or bad things with it? I know they are expensive and I assume pretty heavy by the looks of them online. Some people state they like them so much they do almost all their cooking on them. Do they take charcoal like a regular BBQ? Any info would be appreciated.

Crayola -

I don't own one, but have eaten food smoked in one 20-years ago when I lived in Atlanta. I believe they were rather new at that time? A turkey was cooked in a couple of hours & was so moist & gorgeous, it melted in your mouth from sheer joy. The same with chicken & roast. That's all I've had in them, but it was moister than anything I've ever had on a traditional grill.

I've seen an inexpensive version homemade on a craft show about the same time. Odd as it sounds, they took a brand new metal trashcan, placed a few racks inside & somehow finagled in a few scewers & smoked/cooked their own turkey with charcoal. Of course, they made a big deal of placing it on a stone surface to absorb heat. Honestly, if I were in the market for one, I'd either try to do that first & if that experiment failed purchase a used one online, perhaps beginning with Craigslist. I suppose you could post your own "wanted" ad, as well.

Good luck. I'm starving... VV
