Default Which Burger chains still Grill?

Are there any popular national burger chains that still cook their patties on a grill? I asked at BK once, they told me they cook them in a steamer. Whataburger and Sonic burgers have crispy edges, which makes me think they grill them. Does anybody know?

I believe both of these use a flat top griddle, is that what you mean, or are you talking about a flame/grill?

As far as I know, Carl's Jr. (western U.S.) and Hardee's (Midwest and East) grill their burgers.

BK, like just about every other fast food chain, keeps their cooked patties in a steamer. There are very few burger joints that actually steam their beef.

They are cooked, however, over a flame.

White Castle steams their burgers. I know a few other non-chains that do this but no other fast food places. Maybe Krystal down south?

Burger King has a conveyer belt flame broiler.

In&Out use a grill but they not like an open charcoal grill, more like the grill we use for breakfast.

Not exactly. They grill the raw burger on the grill with the bun on top which steams the meat. They do NOT flip the burger at any point.

Steak and Shake and Culvers grill.
