I buy my fruits, vegetables, eggs, beans from the Farmers Market. What meat we eat depends on what's on sale. I don't buy juices and sodas and we don't consume many starches in my house, i.e. noodles, potatoes, rice, bread. The crockpot is my bestfriend. Stews, soups, chilli, chix/dumplings, beans, etc. Leftovers are eventually eaten and not wasted.

I'll bake cookies, brownies, and cakes for snacking.

I love matcha. It is a special green tea blend. Basically, it is green tea powder whisked into water. By the time you whisk it in, it is frothy. Super high in antioxidants, since you are consuming the entire tea leaf.

I have only had it in a tea shop, not at home.

Also, check your local gourmet and natural food stores. Many have loose leaf tea in the bulk sections!

Luckily for my budget I grew up with parents who grew up very poor and they carried this over in their adult lives so I learned how to stretch a meal.

My husband is an avid hunter so we have several pounds of deer meat in our freezer (at least 50 pounds). We also have buffalo and elk in smaller quantities. I buy quite a bit of chicken. I buy a lot of vegetables, fruit and rice also. I am not afraid to use canned veggies/fruit if my budget is running low. If I have more money I buy fresh. We drink tea or water. I watch the prices on everything. I buy a lot of store or Aldi brands.

I make most things from scratch as this typically saves a lot money.

I wish we liked deer meat. Where we live the deer hunting is very good. But we just can't stand the taste. But we do have a lot of salmon here in our rivers, too, and lots of great lakes for fishing... and we do love fish... so that's something.

Have you tried soaking it in buttermilk? Elk and Buffalo are also good alternatives.

My husband is an avid hunter (and gun collector ) and there are a few meats I am not crazy about...such as Squirrel, Rabbit and Wild Turkey. I thought I would like the wild turkey but the meat stunk from the moment he started cooking it...I couldn't eat it.

I am not crazy about fish...I wish I could find some that I liked though.
