There is a hilarious passage in the book Little Big Man. The protagonist (a boy at the time) is in the Cheyenne village - scared, disoriented, and harassed by a village cur. Finally one of the Cheyenne matrons gets disgusted, dispatches the dog quickly with a club, and throws it into a stewpot. Dinner is served shortly thereafter.

Great movie also with Dustin Hoffman.

I'm a big supporter of ancient tradition tied to national pride and patriotism. What's wrong in eating a dog? I see it nothing worse than eating a cow or a pig It's just a fricking animal.

I agree completely. We eat many things that other countries don't agree with also such as pork. Exotic foods have been all the rave lately. Has anyone seen Food Channel shows like Chopped and the like? They're serving up lamb testicles!

Dog is usually a delicacy reserved for special occassions. I would not choose to eat it. I am more disturbed about eating endangered species or the finning shark.

Although I disagree with the "just a fricking animal" part, I agree that eating dog is no different than eating pigs, cows, or chicken. It should make no difference that we find cats and dogs cuddly. That being said - it is not part of the US national heritage and under no circumstances should it be allowed here.

I really should be a vegetarian. But I loved meat. So I can only hope that any animal I choose to eat is already dead before I see it and that it was killed with the least amount of pain.
