Well, it is a question I always wanted to ask! I guess it was better left unasked! But,...thank God for sugar!

What a silly question -- Okay, I'll bite! --The primary reason folks order UNsweetened Tea is because the notion of what constitutes "SWEET" among the folks who sell sweet tea tends to vary so widely. With UN-sweet Tea, one knows what they are getting and can then add whatever brand/amount of sweetener they want ... to achieve the brand of "sweet" that they prefer.

I just thought the diet version solved that equation. But no sugar at all in iced tea didnt make sense to me.

I am from the south and go against my roots in the way that I drink tea. Due to the fact that my hubby is diabetic I rarely buy sugar. I make unsweetened tea and add sweet n low to my glass (usually two packets). I know sweet n low is not necessarily the best for your but IMO of all the sugar substitutes gives tea a similar sweetness to that of sweet tea.

I think the big question is why would people buy cans or jugs of ANY regular tea to drink at home, when it is so easy and cheap to make yourself? Of course, I never saw botted water being so popular either so what do I know. Growing up in SA, iced tea was everywhere, but you didnt see premade sweet tea being served many places, you just used the sugar on the table. Now I am starting to notice some places don't even have unsweeted tea availible. Most places don't even seem to know how to make iced tea anymore, they just brew it til it's black. I usually mix sweet, unsweet and water til I get a good mix (sometimes a slosh of lemonade too)

Sweet tea for me I do make my own with decaf tea, simple syrup to taste and a squeeze of fresh orange

A cold glass of brewed ice tea with no sugar? Delicious. Really lets you taste the goodness of the tea itself.

iced or hot tea - no sugar for me! To me sugar ruins the natural flavors of the different teas I like. Sometimes a little lemon wedge but that's it

Well, I've been shocked to see how many people drink plain water all day long. Maybe more virginal taste buds can enjoy a tasteless substance. If I'm gonna drink water I like it crystal clear and clean. Beverages such as tea need sugar for my taste enjoyment. They don't make unsweetened sodas as far as i know.

It really is a senseless subject as we all have our preferences. Nothing will likely change long standing traditions. But, I'm starting to get whoosie reading this thread.. The actual OP is about bottled teas. I haven't found any worth drinking. I always take a glass of my own when leaving the house.

If I was prone to drinking straight water for fear of sugar..I might be tempted to add lemon or tea coloring etc.. just to break the monotony. Too bland for me. Sugar in my tea, salt in my grits, creamer in my coffee etc. Who would make chocolate milk or cocoa from Hershey's Cocoa and add no sweetener? Blah! O.K. Having said all this there's no need to explain why we do the things we do. But, again thank God for sugar! Without it tea companies wouldn't get a dime of my money!
