Hubby is going in for major dental surgery and the dentist suggested meal replacement drinks as an interim diet until the pain from the extractions and other procedures eases.

What's your suggestion for a nutritious meal replacement drink that can be purchased at, say, Wal-Mart? Should I get something body-builders use?

I want him to have a little more sustenance than Slim-Fast or other diet-oriented drinks.

Something like Ensure? My son is a very picky eater with a tiny appetite, so we give him Pediasure from time to time. I'm sure it varies brand to brand, but the chocolate and strawberry varieties taste okay, banana is so-so, and vanilla is not good. Each Ensure is about 350 calories, and there are some with extra protein.

Go to a GNC sign up for the membership card to get the discount and buy a body builder meal replacement powder. I like Isopure products myself but they are a little on the expensive side because of their higher quality.

? ~ Hey, really....skip that advice. I've been through it all and I promise you that stuff like canned spaghetti is the ticket! It's perfect to eat when in that condition. No real chewing....and he'll love it since he won't be having liquids!
Stuff like Chef Boy-ar-dee...spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, etc..
I've had oral surgery and a whole lot more, due to my having diabetes.
Just buy one can of the stuff and see if you agree....I'll bet anything that you will!
Sorry to hear that he's going through this....it'll be all okay soon!

The medical community recommends Ensure. It has been used for years for many types of patients and appears to have the most-needed nutrients and vitamins etc. You can buy most anywhere even in the grocery store.

Nowadays it comes in a wide variety of flavors. Most taste better when COLD. My dad lived on it while going through chemotherapy.

Poor husband... best wishes

Thanks, everybody, and I wish you could have seen the look on hubby's face when I told him he'd be having all his nutritional needs met with canned spaghettios topped with protein powder and chased down with a chocolate Ensure!

Hey, whatever works...

I'm sure you've already found something, but just for future reference, Casein protein shakes are solid meal replacement options.
