While I tend to only eat at pizzerias owned and operated by hardcore Italian families, I do like Dominoes and Pizza Hut occasionally.

I grew up in NYC--the places mentioned here just make me sad. I'd rather have no pizza than bad pizza (and whoever said there is no bad pizza never had really good pizza!).

That said, there are a lot of local, non-chain places making bad pizza too.

Lol yeah I'm in the same boat but once you've been away from the city long enough, your standards will surely deteriorate and you'll be able to tolerate Papa John's. Took me a while to like Pizza Hut though.

I've been in Boston for several years now....I have managed to find a few good places here, but nope, don't think I'm ever gonna classify Papa Johns or Pizza Hut as edible, let alone "good pizza". Like I said, I'd just rather make my own or not have any than eat that stuff. It would be like trying to tell a Southern Californian that Taco Bell will do or a Maine person that Red Lobster is close enough.

Shakey's/Me And Ed's pizza used to be great back in the 70's. I think they are franchised now. Just not the same.
Numero Uno was so popular, but not for many years: i wonder what happened? I haven't eaten or even seen a Round Table Pizza place since we left Ca I don't think. It was the first pizza I really liked.

That made no sense at all. Lol.

What part doesn't make sense? I don't think that being made by a local place automatically makes a pizza good. There are a dozen non-chain places in my neighborhood where I could order a pizza but I won't, because they range from "meh" to bad.

There's an old saying ("sex is like pizza, even when it's bad, it's pretty good."). Nope, not even close!

In Ohio we had East of Chicago pizza, which I loved. The crust is perfection...crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We're getting a Mellow Mushroom soon, but isn't that thin crust? I'm not a fan of thin crust pizza.
