I get mine at Costco too.
My family loves it when I make my chicken fried rice recipe using Quinoa instead of rice.

I'm in Illinois and it's in the single digits right now. There is no local produce in season. But it's good to know about the conditions in Peru and Bolivia, thank you. I will look at the source when I buy it.

Adding: I looked at the three packages in my cupboard. Nature's Earthly Choice and Trader Joe's Organic Quinoa are both grown in Bolivia, and 365 Everyday Value (Whole Foods generic brand) is grown in Bolivia and/or Peru.

I saw this several days ago and you beat me to the punch in posting this important story. We tend to not even think of the political and economic impact our food choices have on the country of origin. Sad story.

Pointing the finger solely at vegans and vegetarians for the rising price of a commodity is a little simplistic, eh? Not to mention unfair and inflammatory.

Reason is? Because some people cannot afford a product their country provides? This concept can apply to many countries and many products, I do not see why the producers of quinoa are special.

And people in third world countries work in Nike factories making $300 shoes while they can't afford to buy any kind of shoes for themselves and go barefoot.
