I know someone like this. SHe says she hates the taste of all vegetables and doesn't like beans. She will eat broccoli if it is covered in melted cheese (which ruins it IMO). She refuses to even TRY any veggies because she is sure she just doesn't like any of them. She thinks that because she is still alive, she is healthy and doesn't need veggies. She also eats stuff like cheese in a can. I think that all the high sodium processed foods she eat have "deadened" her taste buds.
She's SO missing out!! I love veggies, always have. As a kid my faves wer broccoli and cabbage and I remember being annoyed that I was too small to reach the salad bar. Also, there are several foods that I hated as a kid that I like as an adult. To assume that because you hated it when you were 5 that you will still hate it at 35 is ridiculous. Maybe you DO still hate it, but at least TRY!

Medically relevant dietary restrictions, sure. Pickiness? Pick out the onions (tomatoes, bell peppers, whatever). Or make your own dinner.

My husband has certain dietary needs because of diverticulitis attack last year. If it's family I will ask what they are making. My husband stays away from seeds, black pepper and tomatoes. Plus our families are conscious of what he can and cannot have so they accomodate him. I wouldn't ask a friend or someone who does not know my husband but then again the friends we have always tell us ahead of time what we are making and if it's ok with us. 99% it's no problem.

Same here. If my sister's coming over, there won't be a shred of fish on the menu. She hates fish. If my #2 son is having a meal at my place, there won't be any eggplant or okra on the menu, although I love the stuff in all sorts of preparations.
It's not about me, it's all about my guests.

What about people who aren't guests? Living with a picky eater can very much infringe upon one's life.

As in kids? Eat it or starve. Once they're out on their own, they become guests and are accorded the privs.

So, you think everything that is not vegetables is, "crap"?
Someone's forgetting their status statement!
