My parents ( and many others in that era) were sent to one room school houses with lunch buckets ( usually syrup buckets) that contained lard sandwiches.

On the walk to school ( in winter) the lard sandwiches would freeze so the teacher had the students set their lunch buckets near the stove before noon to unthaw the lard sandwiches.

YUCK !

My Father actually seemed to like the fat on steaks ( that chewy sinewy bit) and relished eating it. It is one of the very few things which set my gag reflex off and will make me want to vomit. I still do not get it to this day. I always trim that bit off my steak with great care. He also loved the skin hot milk ( as when you make hot chocolate) and ditto the first thing it would actually make me heave ( and still does).

I can and will eat pretty much anything but these two are top of my food "phobias" of everyday foods. I never got how he could eat that stuff. I don't say this often but "eeeeeeeeeeeeew gross" ( and yes I tried it so I am able to say this !!).

My dad liked to eat the skin off of home cooked chocolate pudding. I don't like that I prefer the instant.

Wow.....you brought back a childhood memory for me.

I remember I used to like it too.....when I was a kid and Mom made "real" pudding.

I used to love liverwurst sandwhiches.....when I was a kid.....before I became a vegetarian.

I wish they made a liverwurst meat substitute......I would love that.

When I used to eat it, it was just with mustard on white bread.........your "grown up" version sounds so much better.

Mom and Dad both like Scrapple. (uggg, blech, yuck).

The oddest dish dad ever made for me was spaghetti in a chicken broth with scrambled egg swirled through it topped off with green onion. He enjoyed it. (I get the shivers just thinking about it)

My Dad used to eat pickled pig's feet. Horseradish. The stinkiest cheese he could find. Churnina (I know I spelled this wrong) it's a Polish soup made out of duck's blood.
My Grandpa's favorite part of a chicken was the tail. Or butt as we called it. ick!

My dad ate oatmeal rolled up into balls and dipped into tomato sauce. At first I thought meat balls. Never again.

My mom never ate weird foods. But rather under ate and when she did eat it was junk food and coffee.
