Sugar from sugar beets is much bigger in Europe than the US. I had a Swedish cousin who was a PHD in agri genetics who specialized in them and then also tobacco, apparently he wanted to get both big vices covered.
Beet sugar represents 55% of sugar produced in the US with the heaviest production in Michigan, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Beet production is growing; cane sugar production is declining.
I don't drink nearly as much soda as I used to these days, but when I do, I always spring for a Mexican Coke, or something else made with cane sugar (the choices are slim, but seem to be growing) - It just tastes far superior to me, and I feel satisfied drinking less of it than HFCS-sweetened soda.
Now, if only I could come across a cane sugar version of Cherry Coke in a glass bottle...I'd be one happy camper!

That's probably a good idea. There is an epidemic of diabetes all over the U.S. . Soda that's in a glass bottle tastes best to me also. There should probably be a poll on preferred packaging too, just for curiosity's sake. I wonder what percentage of people would agree with us.
Why does Mexican Coke taste different than US-Coke? Even in Germany, France, Italy, Holland and England, Coke tastes the same as in America. They send the syrup to all countries and add sugar or sweetener and water to it. My father used to work for Coca Cola in Germany and he told me that. All of the syrup comes from America, for only three people know the formula.

Mexican Coke made for export to the U.S. uses sugar as a sweetener. As far as I know, all U.S., as well as Mexican Coke prepared for domestic consumption, use HFCS.
The same distinction applies to catsup, Worcestershire sauce, and probably many other products.
funny how one of the most iconic items in American history has tumbled...the classic coke.....what once made it soooooo popular is now its downfall.. and that's sugars
diet coke is now consumed more than regular coke..
many say even the diet isn't good for folks......maybe this is why water has taken over as soft drink of choice and theirs 5 billion plastic water bottles containers that should be recycled
it's just oldschool coke. The Pepsi 1893 is better.
