About 5 years ago, I stayed in Hannover, Germany for a month at hotel named Gasteresidenz PelikanViertel. The hotel used to serve some excellent complimentary breakfast fare.
One of the items on the menu was this dish that one could slather on a croissant before eating. It seemed to have the following:
- Mayo base
- Thin slices of Ham...I was having ham for the first time so had no idea what it was
- Thin slices of some crunchy green produce, possibly Dill pickle, sliced thin like the Ham above

Truth be told, I had not thought about that till yesterday. After I opened this thread, I realized I could ask the hotel but I could not find an email address. I do not think they even have their own website.
We had a German exchange student in our home for a year and she used to make a salad which she would spread on either crackers or bread. It had chopped up prosciutto, chopped watercress, mayo and lime juice mixed together for the dressing. Sometimes she would spread this on a couple other slices of prosciutto and roll it up and eat it. Other times she would add a small bit of chopped kosher dill pickle.
She ate this for any meal. Her tastes were definitely different than ours. I cringed when she ate nutella on her bread and toast for breakfast.
