Aluminum Foil Rant!
I use foil a lot for lining baking pans, especially for cooking meats, chicken, fish, etc. I have noticed that over the years the standard foil and even heavy duty foil has gotten increasingly thinner. In the last year or so the store brand I buy is practically useless. More than half the time the foil gets a hole in it while I am trying to line the pan. Kroger brand regular foil is now similar to tissue paper in thickness!
Has anyone else noticed this? Am I imagining it?

It's like everything else. Not what it used to be.

I would not buy anything but name brand heavy duty for this reason. It's expensive, but the thin stuff is pure junk.

I thought that I was the only one with this problem. You definitely get what you pay for.

I totally agree. Even the Reynolds Heavy Duty seems thinner.
I have been toying with the idea of splurging on a box of extra heavy duty professional kitchen grade aluminum foil. They run around $90 a box but it will last forever. I also am interested in this because it will be great for foil packets.

The less expensive brands are good for covering up left overs in the fridge, I wouldn't use them for baking.

I hate to say this but everything is becoming low grade, cheap junk anymore! Shovels...plastic. WTH??? Snow shovels? Plastic. Tools, whats up with hammers now with plastic handles, not wood? And toolboxes...all cheap plastic, I dont know if you can even find lunchboxes or toolboxes made of steel anymore, unless you order it online. Storage containers, if its not Tupperware, its junk, unless you buy the glass storage containers. Believe me, I notice everything, as a consumer, its hard anymore to get good quality anythings at all, for what we pay.
Im one too, who lines my baking pans. But the foil we get these days is terrible.

I am sheepish about reporting this, but recently we bought a roll of store brand, Great Value at Walmart. It is OK as a basic utility brand, certainly not heavy duty and probably thinner than the good old days.
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, it is labeled "Distributed by Wal-mart ...AK" (naturally) and "Packaged in USA, metal of Russia".
