Could it cut down large scale commercial meat production? Sure. But eliminate it? I doubt it.

For one thing ruminants like cows, sheep and goats grazing on natural pasture is often the only practical way to raise any food at all in many areas. Some land is simply not good for any other agricultural activity.

I can think of lots of meats I can eat without needing crops. Roast venison and caribou, ground moose burgers, pheasant, squab, wild turkey breast, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not worried.

i don't beleive this for a second, but what I do beleive is: 100 years from now. most if not all, might be vegetarians as it is growning in popularity and most of us are eating much less meat than we did a decade or so ago. We were talking about this yesterday. I don't think we eat 1/2 the meat we did in 2000. Yes, we have some almost daily but not in the proportions we used to...Part of this is age, but I have noticed our kids and grandkids have cut way back. In fact, sometimes we go to our daughters and want to say "where's the beef?" O can remember living in the DC area in the 80s and seeing an article in the Wash Post food section about a typical Thanksgiving dinner during the early days of our country. There were several kinds of meat and very few veggies...Look how that has changed...

I will add, these scientific studies always make me smile...if we stop eating meat it will not be due to lack of it, it will be due to changing tastes....

I can't see it, too many carnivores for that to happen. Humans have always eaten more meat that vegetables and have always been carnivores. If you choose to be a vegetarian good for you I prefer betsy on the grill, she is mighty tasty that way.
