Wipe it out with your shirt tail. Anything that came off his hands onto the cop will wipe off just as easily.

Hard to tell if you're joking, but no, that is not a realistic option. All kinds of nasty bugs could easily survive that treatment.

Exactly. Wiping is no disinfectant.

Why do you think it's impolite to stand up for what you want?

This is a case of lack of training.

Do you have any idea how many germs you come into contact with everyday? You probably got more germs on your hands just by opening the door to the Subway store than you got by the cashier touching the inside of the cup. Maybe you washed your hands in the bathroom after entering Subway so you washed off all those germs before putting your hands all over your sandwich and then eating the sandwich... but if the bathroom had a door handle, you just recontaminated yourself by touching it when leaving the bathroom. You mention all the dirty money the cashier was handling - like the money you just gave her, the money you put your own hands all over? Did she give you any change? And did you wash your hands after she gave you the change or gave you your credit card back? Because if not, you've already got whatever germs were on her hands on yours anyway and then touched your own sandwich, eating those germs - so what difference does it make if they are also on the cup?

Yes, some amount of sanitization and hygiene is necessarily but at some point, you just have to accept the fact that we don't live in a sterile world. You'll drive yourself crazy obsessing over all this.
