I've never had to give out Halloween treats because I've always lived in small apartment complexes that only have studios and one-bedroom apartments. No kids in those.
Thanks for giving me a great laugh this morning. It is a funny visual.

I won't buy any until 2 days before less temptation for me. I may just buy 2 bags of candy. I get maybe 10 kids the whole time.

I want to be like you when I grow up. I have to buy it the day before. Chocolate is my crack and I've tried without success to break that habit for many years.

I was thinking this year buying those mini bags of pretzels and goldfish crackers instead of candy.

I bought some before Labor Day.

Oh, wait, do you mean for the trick-or-treaters?

Because both of us like junk food and sweets and you needed a justification to buy it, damn now I want to run to Wallmart and get my bag of treats for kids, no really for me.

I don't feel tempted by most Halloween fun-sized candy, other than Skittles and Reese's cups.

I've bought two bags of caramels (my candy weakness!), one in the middle of September, and one the first week in October. Neither bag lasted more than four days. I refuse to buy any more and for the kiddos on Halloween, I'll get the regular stuff that I don't care for, and maybe a few Reese's cups that my husband and I can share. They will last longer than the caramels.

Seriously... how many of you are tired of being "judged," or even just questioned, because of the amount of something you buy? I see this happen every day at work. Total strangers will make comments like, "Wow, that's a lot of candy! What are you doing going to do with all of that?" (Even when it's not Halloween.) Or, in our wine shop, some will say to the person in front of them in line, "Looks like you have big plans for the night! Do you usually buy that much?"

At that point my mind sizes up the two customers and places bets on the wine/blood ratio that's surely to be spilled for me to clean up.

But, being that this is "Minnesota Nice" territory, people will usually respond with an uncomfortable laugh and actually explain their purchase to the brazen and nosy inquisitor. While I'm happy to not have to mop up the bloodshed, my mind races with equally brazen and bold responses that I would love to give in return while theme music plays in the background, reaching a climactic crescendo. Alas, I'm my mother's child so I hold my tongue.

But, to get it off my chest, here are some responses cause me to risk an aneurism as I hold them back: (I promise, I'm not a mean or rude person! I'm just from the south and this is my brain's way of entertaining itself!)

1. (About the candy.) Oh, this isn't for Halloween, hon. It just takes this much candy for me to keep my sweet disposition with people who ask nosy questions. Presently I'm a snack-size Kit Kat away from the danger zone, so if you'll excuse me....

2. (About the wine.) Actually, yes! Every other day. It dulls the... (look down suddenly at your shoes and speak angrily)... I told you to STOP interrupting me when I'm being questioned by the queen!"

3. (For any situation.) (Look at the person, pause for a moment, tilt your head to the right, smile and say...) "I bet you were your mother's favorite, weren't you?!"

WHEW! I feel better...
