I'm in Taiwan at the moment, and it's interesting to see the types of drinks that are common here...spending an time here it becomes overwhelmingly obvious that tea is a national obsession. The Taiwanese invented 'bubble' or 'pearl' tea, cold brewed tea, sometimes with milk (often non-dairy creamer) in a number of flavours (typically flavoured with syrup or powder) with tapioca or sago 'bubbles' at the bottom you drink up with a big straw. It's become pretty common in much of the world. Of course it's still super common in Taiwan.

But what I find interesting is the array of drinks you find at say the 7-11, of which there are thousands. Green tea is in many many things, and green tea milk is very popular. Basically milk flavoured with matcha powder with a green flavour. I'm quite partial to it now. The milk may or may not be 'real' milk, of course it tastes really good with real milk. I've had a green tea milkshake and green tea ice cream and I think the idea of dairy + green tea is largely a Japanese idea. There are also many other types of milk tea, oolong, black, earl grey, special teas you only find in Taiwan, as well as non-milk teas, often sweetened.

Yoghurt drinks are very popular here, as they are in Korea and Japan. Unlike yoghurt drinks you might find at the supermarket which are really runny yoghurt, these are more watery, kind of like Yakult, but pretty opaque. They come in plain (sweetened), fruit and tea flavours.

For those who have tried them what did you think? If you haven't how do they sound to you?

It's funny you can get three different brands of green tea with milk but no chocolate or strawberry milk here lol.

I love boba tea! Back in my college town, there was this boba place that was just amazing. I used to always get a strawberry and guava icee, and sometimes I would switch it up and get a lychee icee. I tend to not like sweetened teas, so the only tea I get with boba is chai.
