I don't understand why some of my friends and family completely shun red meat but happily eat sausage, bacon, ham, pork chops, etc? It is not based on taste (they've said). They shun red meat because they think red meat is just bad, almost the devil! The amount of crap pork dishes they eat easily outweighs the occasional red meat dish. I don't think they are so concerned about cholesterol, since they have no problem going to town on high fat, high cholesterol, desserts. They think because it isn't red meat, then it is ok.
I love a good steak or hamburger, in moderation. I probably eat red meat 3-4 times a month. We usually always prepare it ourselves, on the grill with no extra sauce, topping, etc.
Why does it bother me? Because they make me feel like I am insane for ordering a steak or a burger. They think I'm insane, unhealthy, etc. I'm not the one eating chocolate cake with ice cream and whipped topping.
They are obviously uneducated on the benefits. Comparing like cuts of pork and steak pork is almost as lean as chicken breast. That is why the ad campaign was (not sure if it is still out there) about pork being "the other white meat". That said, sausage and bacon probably arent going to win you any health points. Ham or lean pork chops are leaps and bounds better for you than steak though.

You make a good point. However, cured ham has a substantial amount of sodium. Fresh, uncured ham is a completely different story.
===========================
In the past twenty years, pork has been bred to become leaner and to have a lot less intermuscular fat. At the same time, chicken is a lot fattier than it was. I believe that in some cases, chicken has more fat than many pork cuts.
I'm sure its not like this, but sounds like people I know who eat a ff burger and fries, super sized, then diet coke cause of the calories.
The media plays a HUGE role in what people think. Nobody wants to think or investigate on their own. They take what the liberal media dishes out one big bite at a time.
They can eat their lean pork, give me a nice juicy steak or burger any day! And yes I raise both and know what goes in them.........and what comes out.
Btw, I think more BS comes from the media than from our hogs or cattle!
Have you asked them what exactly makes them think red meat is "bad" or "almost like the devil"? Maybe they've become unreasonably paranoid about mad cow disease or something?
I've definitely heard the mad cow argument a few times. I think some people just think it is healthier, like fad trendy. Kinda like being crunchy organic all the time and pushing their lifestyle choices on others.
I've seriously not ordered a steak at times because I don't want to be judged.
Food preferences are subject to fashion trends. Many people don't bother to learn much about nutrition, they just go by what other people are saying, and that's like the "telephone" game, where the message changes with every person who repeats it.
Mad cow? Seriously? 5 minutes research on the internet will destroy that as an issue. You are literally more likely to be struck by lightning on two separate occasions than to be infected with mad cow disease.
If i felt I was being judged by my friends for what I eat, I'd find new friends. Diet choices are personal, and really nobody else's business.

Then you either need to stand up for yourself or find new friends.
