I think it's a couple of factors:

1) Kids exposed to veggie tastes from the actual first taste of solid food. A LOT of parents give them some kind of fruit as their first taste of a solid food. I think this can lead to a pre-disposition to sweet (er) foods. The best advice my Grandma ever gave me when I was a brand new mommy was to give my baby a veggie first when she was first tasting solids. I didn't introduce fruit until about 3 wks to a month later. My daughter absolutely loves most veggies. My grandmother also did this with my mom, so she has also always loved veggies and included a lot of veggies in our meals growing up. I don't think this applies in every instance, but I do believe this early exposure can make a huge difference. It's the one piece of advice I give to every single new mom who has ever asked me for any advice. I feel it's very important.

2) Veggies cooked properly. I read some debate on this a few pages back, and I know it's a matter of opinion, but I do believe the majority of people do not prefer their veggies mushy, limp and gray colored from being cooked way too long, plus losing so many nutrients. My dad grew up with his veggies cooked that way and he hated veggies all of his childhood until he married my mom. She is an outstanding cook and cooked them properly (IMO) as well as seasoned them properly, and he finally tasted how delicious veggies can be. I also believe most canned veggies are less than adequate, and some people are only exposed to those. Tragedy I tell ya!

Of course some people just hate veggies no matter what....in a boat, in a moat, on a float..they will not eat them!

Depends on your genetics. I've known people who ate greasy, fatty foods their whole lives and smoked and drank like it was going out style, yet lived long lives. I've also met people who ate healthy their whole lives, yet died young.

I do think it's some combination of how the veggies were prepared and introduced, especially earlier on in life, but some of the commercials I've seen probably don't help matters any. There are two that I can think of right off the bat. The first shows a guy at a party licking some dip off of a piece of broccoli as if he were touching his tongue to a 9 volt battery. The second has a woman banging pots and pans and shushing her husband as he is trying to read that there is a full serving of vegetables in a can of something. They're vegetables, not poison!

Well most veggies are not that tasty, or have strong unpleasant tastes like brussel sprouts, but i think some veggies can be tasty or at least taste 'tasteless' enough to not be too pungent to the palate. There are some vegetables I cannot stand like celery though. I find it weird some people can't stand say cucumber or tomato though, they're the most inoffensive of vegetables.
