Along time ago, Breyers was an okay Ice Cream, it seems cheap and poor quality anymore.
Count me in with the people who only buys Blue Bell now (Well occasionally Graeters or Ben and Jerry's)
Blue Bell is a bit more expensive, but worth every penny and delicious!
Bassett's ice cream, if you can get it, is also worth checking out--America's oldest ice cream brand that also uses high butter fat (more than most companies) and all natural ingredients. They've never changed their recipe or cheapened the ingredients.
I noticed on the Blue Bell label ARTIFICIAL flavor and cottonseed oil. I don't want artificial flavor, whatever it is and cottonseed oil is not a food crop.
A doctor told me about cottonseed oil a long time ago. Cotton is grown for cloth, not food, and therefore is not subject to safety regulations like foods are. Therefore it can be sprayed with any pesticide or whatever else and then WE get to eat it.
Thank goodness I enjoy making my own ice cream. As someone said, it's the only way to get anything really natural these days.
Wow, it's getting harder to find truthful articles. There are tons or articles (some from the cotton industry, of course) about how cotton oil is good for you. The article I linked to restates what my doctor told me and also says it is now GMO. Best to make your own ice cream if you want to really have a natural food.

Nowadays it's almost impossible. High fructose corn syrup is almost in every processed food.
Interestingly, it wasn't in the list of ingredients on the Breyers (vanilla) ice cream. It's possible to avoid it, you do have to read labels though because it is prevelent.
It seems Blue Bell started using it a few years ago. Guessing as a cost-cutting technique. I doubt they made big announcements over the change to let consumers know. Now are they sneaky too? Plus, I had to go by the pictures posted upthread to compare ingredients. While Breyers posts their list of ingredients on their website for all to see, Blue Bell does not or if they do I couldn't find it. Hmm.

Reason: clarification comparison was vanilla to vanilla
Well in all fairness to Bryers, no matter what brand of ice cream, once you start adding all kind of things, like Oreos, Snickers, red velvet cake (how much red dye is in that?), all kinds of weird things are going to be in the ingredients. No way any company could make an ice cream with something like Oreos in it and not have a ton of weird ingredients. You couldn't do that in your own kitchen.
I think the thing is that as consumers we need to be aware - read labels, notice changes in packaging as well as taste. Then make our purchasing choices accordingly.
