I have cooked dry beans of all types for years. Every bag has a warning to sort the beans and watch for stones or rocks.

Kidney beans, chickpeas, navy beans, pinto beans, black beans, lima beans, even lentils have the stone warning.

I have always checked carefully and have never found a single stone. Just wondering if anyone else has ever discovered one?

Yup. I've found stones and I've found poor sad moldy withered beans.

No, I never have found a stone. Like Emeraldmaiden, I have found a few nasty looking beans.

I have found the occasional tiny "rock" ( more like large grit) in beans and lentils but nothing alarming though I am sure you could still chip a tooth on those.

I always check carefully because I don't want anyone to bite into a stone!

I have on occassion found a very small dry bean (pinto) and or a very small pebble.
Considering the amount of beans harvested and the procedures that they go thru to
clean them, I am not at all concerned as I do wash more than once and rinse in a collender.

Out here in the Southwest there are tons of beans cooked and consumed and no reports of
dental problems....the locals know how to prevent that.

Happy trails,

HW

This reminds me....The first time I made lentil soup, I had no idea what I was even supposed to be looking for when I "sorted" and "cleaned" the red lentils per the instructions on the bag - not exactly an easy task with red lentils. I just sifted through the red lentils as best I could looking for ?, rinsed them in a strainer and hoped for the best. All I knew at the time was that I didn't find anything noteworthy and the soup turned out well.

I've found one on occasion. I hate to throw wally world under the bus - but whenever I buy the great value dried beans, they seem the most suspect.
