Then, you come running in half an hour late, and everyone glaring at you..........fortunately, these weird relatives have died, so no more Marylee being late!
Wow, that's really mean!!

We went to a birthday party where pizza and sandwiches were being picked up. We were told to come at 1:00, we showed up like 1:15. Food wasn't there. Ok no big deal. Now its 2:00 still no food. Her husband was going to go pick up the food at 3:30, we found out. We had a concert to go to at 6:00 that evening, so we had to leave around 4:00 to get there. When we left at 4:00 food still wasn't there, her husband left to go get it though.

Why invite people at 1:00? We were there just to sit around and talk and watch the kid open up her presents.
I'm laughing because this happened in our family too! SIL invites everyone over for a BBQ/birthday for nephew at 2pm. Great, we're all there at 2. Dinner wasn't until 6pm, and boy, we were starving!!!

I like the way OP stated her invitation... come over at X, dinner is at Y. Now we've learned our lesson and always ask, what time would you like us there, and what time is dinner being served, so we can plan our other mealtimes accordingly.

Yes I have and I have come to the point of no longer inviting them lateness is rude . I had a drama teacher who once said "Never be late to anything especially an appearance it is rude to your director , your co stars etc , dont be rude is to not be late " for some reason that made an impression on me for a long time and i still remember it .
