Ok, I am having serious goosebumps. And not from the cold.
I popped in from work while eating a late lunch this afternoon on a whim, and the first thing I saw was Lacey's post asking for support for our Noma. So of course I broke the rules, logged in, and felt my heart sink to my boots at his news.
Couldn't stay, though, not with the month to finish closing, so I logged off and went back to the closing entries. I was hurrying to get done timely because we had the birthday party planned for tonight, and wound up actually leaving a bit early. Got in the car and the public radio was playing Wagner's Til Eulenspiegel, not one of my favorites, so I popped in a cd of Faure's Requiem to listen to on the way home.
Well, I got about halfway home on my usual route, and as I was zipping out East Wash, about half a block ahead of me I could see the railroad lights start to flash and the gates come down. I pounded the steering wheel with frustration - there's a birthday girl waiting for her party! - but of course there's nothing to do but wait it out. So I popped the car into park and sat there seething, watching the looooong freight train ever so slowly trundling past in front of me.
As I sat there with the music rolling over me, though, I felt myself start to relax somewhat. Then the Pie Jesu began, and as I listened to that achingly beautiful soprano solo, my mind returned to my friend Noma, and the fearful news he learned today. I closed my eyes and started talking to the universe about my friend and his beloved son, and my sorrow at what they are facing together. It must have been an odd sight, if anyone was watching: a chubby fifty-something, alone, sitting all bundled up in her car, eyes closed and appearing to talk to herself, but that didn't occur to me at the time.
Well, eventually the train cleared the crossing, the gates arose, and traffic slowly resumed its normal Friday night pace. Got home shortly thereafter, and had a wonderful and fun birthday celebration with the family. The youngsters left a little while ago, spouse is snoring, and I just finished the dishes and logged in to see what's been going on recently.
And I found Jaxson's post asking for prayers at 7:00 Eastern time.
And the goosebumps started.
Because, you see, I live in the Central time zone. It was about 5:40 when I left the office. And it was just about 20 minutes later, at 6:00 Central time, when I watched the railroad barriers come down to stop me in the middle of the street, leaving me no choice but to take the time to talk to the universe about my friend Noma.
Oh I promise that recipe! I tore the page out of a magazine in my son's dentist office (No Shame) and have to find it. Tomorrow I surely will post
