I tried to read this entire thread, but ran out of time.
For those of you that came to this thread, there is a fun book about old candy bars...I think it's called Candy Freak. Small little book, but very entertaining...all about a guy that couldn't get over the loss of, I think it was calle a $1,000,000 bar? I could be wrong about his fixation....but it is a cool little book and tells you what happened to all the candy bars of history. If you can't get the book, the bottom line is all the little factories were bought up by Nestle, Hershey, etc.
The fun-est fact in the book is why we can't get those milk filled chocolate cups here in the west.
Years ago, Lipton used to make an Italian herb and tomato dry soup mix. I would use it to coat chicken pieces before baking, and it was sooooo good.
I remember that soup mix. There was a copycat receipe for KFC original chicken which the tomato soup mix was included with other ingredients that I can't remember.
Have you looked at Pero instant beverage? I just googled around and indeed Postum was discontinued in 2007 and there are many places when Postum lovers are discussing their loss. I keep running into this product Pero. Apparently it is very similar in its ingredients with a little less sweetness due to no molasses. You could add your own sweetener of choice. And like Postum it is instant unlike other coffee substitutes. I hope you can find a product your Dad will enjoy

For those of you searching for Taco Doritos, Frito Lay has brought them back for a limited time. I heard about it and checked the Frito Lay site and found they were in my local Wal Mart where I procured a few bags.
Apparently they never went out of production in certain parts of the country, but most Frito Lay regional companies don't like to make em because the seasoning jams up the machines more.
I always liked Big John Beans on camping trips. They are now gone for good. They stayed in limited production for a while and then bit the dust.
New York Seltzer Water in the little 10 oz bottles. Those were always a treat as a kid.
I think the soda market outside of Coke/Pepsi is tough. Jones Soda is pulling back after losing a lot of money trying to get their product out there more.
The "original" Jolly Rancher. Hershey closed down the original factory in Colorado and it has never been the same since and never will be.
Sunshine Cup O' Custard Cookies. They were shaped like flowers and had vanilla and chocolate, but the chocolate ones were just nasty. I could easily eat a whole bag in one sitting as a kid, and miss them terribly!
