Can someone please tell me the proper way to use plate chargers on a formal dinner table? Do they go on placemats, or are they placed directly on the tablecloth?

I'm just trying to put on airs for Thanksgiving. Never had chargers before. They look ever so pretty.

Thanks,

Chargers are formal, so no placemats.

Rule #1, never confuse your guests.

Anyway I think it takes up a lot of room. Remove it from the table during service since it serves no real function.

Wow. That's a lovely site. Thank you! I've always enjoyed the more informal side of gatherings, but saw chargers in the store and got to thinking how pretty they would be on the table!

Here's a rep pt for you! You deserve more than one, actually.
