I like carrots or celery in soups or stews but can't stand them raw. I have never liked olives or onions (even inion rings) on or in anything. The ones that most people find good that I don't like are yellow mustard, coffee, and Oreos.

What no okra, I'll eat okra any way but raw. I'll do boiled okra while the oyster lovers slide their slime down.

Never tried Cheetos and a lot of crap along those lines like the fake cheese in a can, etc. You'd have to be flashing a wad of Benjies for me to even consider it for half a second.

Never had it and I won't try it, my mom says it looks like snot when cooked. Maybe her mom overcooked it when she was a kid.

One such food is black olives on pizza. I will not pick them off. Less than 5 veggies gag me.

Now for the part that I just don't do. I don't do buttermilk. Just something about it I can not face a glass of it to try even. Maybe it is a food phobia. I do eat it in cooking as in buttermilk biscuits. I know what buttermilk is but still no way I'm going to try it. There has got to be a better way to get whatever it has in it. How about you? Any food phobias that you just will not give a chance?
Really you dont like black olives/

I'm with you on the buttermilk with regards to drinking it whole. However it really isn't buttermilk today but soured milk. REAL buttermilk from your Grandma's day was delish

Tongue tacos which is fairly poplur here in California and most of the Southwest. Dont like it. Weird given the fact I LOVE tacos de buche.

I can understand the reason for not trying some non-mainstream foods (for instance dog meat, insects, fugu) but I've eaten everything brought up so far and more (camel meat, eel, octopus, various wild greens, etc) and can't imagine not wanting to even try something that is quite mainstream.

I'm curious why some people won't try certain foods, for instance haggis or sushi or okra? All of which billions of people consider delicious. Why would you not try something that's not controversial (such as eating dogs, which I will NOT do)? Is it just a perceived "ick factor", fear of something strange, or what?

I guess I am a more adventurous eater than most, because I'll try almost anything once.

There are mainstream foods I have tried at least once and will never eat again unless I am literally starving because they tasted disgusting to me: Any form of soda pop or cola. Corn dogs and hot dogs. Bologna. Those giant turkey legs sold at Renaissance Festivals. Powdered creamers and instant coffee. Flavored creamers, even more disgusting. Government cheese. MREs.

I am willing to try just about anything once - I try to keep an open mind about food cultures. I haven't been in the company of other dining companions that have challenged my food etiquette.

As I broaden my horizons, I'll keep that in mind while I am seeking a significant other.
