Would you willingly eat chicken nuggets processed in a country that has no intention of meeting U.S. food-safety standards? Most Americans likely wouldn't.

That may explain why the U.S. Department of Agriculture waited until Friday -- the day before a long holiday weekend -- to announce that it had ended a ban on Chinese chicken imports by approving four Chinese poultry processors to ship processed ("heat-treated/cooked") chicken to the U.S. The report on the approved poultry plants noted that the audit set out to “to determine whether the People's Republic of China's (PRC) food safety system governing poultry processing remains equivalent to that of the United States (U.S.), with the ability to produce products that are safe, wholesome, unadulterated, and properly labeled." Needless to say, the Chinese plants passed.

Another bizarre cost-cutting venture - raise the chickens here, slaughter the chickens here, send the slaughtered chickens to China for processing, sell the processed chicken back to us.

It's all safe and wholesome until it isn't.

I guess it isn't an issue since my family won't eat chicken nuggets.

Strict rule in this household, though: no food from China.

No fruits, no veggies, no processed foods, no dog treats.

I don't eat chicken nuggets no matter where they are made!
And I do my best to avoid food from China at all costs, although I realise that raw ingredients for many, many common food items are imported from there.

Why? Some of the chains make their nuggets from chunks of breast meat - not processed "chicken product." It's the same as eating fried boneless chicken breast.

Don't like (most) deep-fried food, don't like white-meat chicken especially factory-farmed, not a fan of chain-produced food.
That's why.

After reading the label on one of my favorite fish - Tilapia, it has not touched my lips since. Alaskan cod has quickly filled in that empty slot.

I will certainly be buying my chicken from my local farmer that lives about 25 miles from here.
