I love deep fried Fish.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration just announced its preliminary determination that partially hydrogenated oil is no longer generally recognized as safe for use in food.

The move paves the way for a ban, or at the very least, strict limits on the fake fats, which are the primary source of artificial trans fats in the diet.

Yeah, right. They'll just reformulate their products like they should have done by now already.

But I guess "5 Foods That Will Now Be Made with Non-Hydrogenated Oils" isn't sensationalist enough to get clicks.

I normally don't support government bans, but in the case of trans-fats it really should be done.

One food that still has them in large quantities is cake frosting. Almost everything else has been reformulated. McDonalds Biscuits used to be high in them... they have been reformulated. Microwave popcorn, etc. Sometimes the reformulation results in a slightly worse taste or more oily mouthfeel. I noticed this when they reformulated "nutty bars" some years back.

Silly concept... they's just all be reformulated.

And as has been say, they've all had 10 years to figure out how to do this, so they should be able to make the changes fairly quickly.

I'm not following. Why would deep-fried fish be banned? They, or you, can just fry it in vegetable oil or peanut oil, or any other kind of oil.

They'll replace it with palm oil in many products, which is supposedly still bad for you.

and most people know how I feel about this: Please government, stay out of my life for heavens sake. Let me decide what I want to kill myself eating or drinking. I have no problems with the government warning us what isn't healthy but I do have a problem with them controlling my life!!!!

This. Inform us, educate us, don't put yourself in loco parentis over adult citizens just because some other citizens decide that they should get to make our decisions for us based on their own fear of death and inability to live in a world where other adults make decisions differing from their own (and don't do it for any other reason, either).

That didn't work real well during Prohibition, why should it work any better now? Carrie Nation will always be with us, but I'd thought we'd learned by now not to let her run our lives.

I love how "fast food" is one of them. What? Could you be any more vague? Just because it's fast food doesn't even make it nutritionally devoid, let alone ban-worthy.
