Okay, does anyone else like this drink or am I one of the few who thinks this is incredible. I order it whenever it is on the menu and I make it at home, but I don't know anyone else who will drink it. It seems every Spanish-speaking country has their own version and I love them all.

One of my favorites is the Salvadoran version .

Bleech!

My wife and kids like it.

Fresh brewed agua de Jamaica is my choice.

Can you give us your recipe? Living in Miami you would have thought I would have seen it, but I haven't.

Several Mexican restaurants offer horchata in Miami.

As for a recipe, I purchase the horchata powder from the local tiendas and mix with skim milk. The horchata powder has all the ingredients pre-ground. Once, I did purchase chufas (tiger nuts) to make the Spanish version, but I ended-up eating the chufas before I could grind them for horchata. Chufas are wonderfully creamy and milky when fresh.

Thanks Dirt Grinder!

I usually don't go to Mexican other then The place on 107 ave and sunset, real authentic Mexican.

I will ask them because we love them and they know us as loyal customers. She is a single mom that is tough and her sons run the front of the house, but the food is always spot on.

She use to be next to Scully's before management raised the rent.

The old hood had a lot of these gems!

I've had it at restaurants and liked it; unfortunately I no longer live in a place with a great selection of Mexican restaurants.
I just did a fast google and there are lots of recipes out there. Quite simple to make!

It's everywhere here. The grocery stores actually have an area within the store where you can buy different flavors of the aguas frescas, including horchata. Years ago, when it was still somewhat safe to cross the border, you could walk down the main streets & every few feet--literally--see people ladling horchata out of big glass barrels/jars.
You can also buy it in the grocery in refrigerated cartons as well as those aseptic cartons. It's a big deal around here, good stuff!

We have here Mexican horchata. Depends how is made, I usually like it. I think it's rice, water, almonds (or almond milk) and cinnamon.

My only problem with trying horchata is that the only place that I have seen it served is at street stands, and not usually clean looking ones. Maybe, I will have better luck in Tucson.

Rice milk, cinnamon and honey is how I've always made it.
