Actually, they do NOT taste like cardboard. I know, because I accidentally ate a small piece of cardboard once (long story, and too embarrassing to relate. )

I like a tamari-flavored organic brown rice variety that I get at the health food store. Very savory and yummy all on its own. I can't eat the grocery store variety. They do taste like styrofoam.
Try pouring hot sizzling seafood chowder or your favorite soup over the rice cakes.
