We used to pre-order fresh (I know, slushy-frozen) turkeys until they became ubiquitous this time of year. Now we just walk in and buy one. And the stores always have an abundance of cannonballs.

No. Usually I buy a prime rib roast whenever they go on sale, and stick it in the freezer for Christmas.

this is smart... while the prime ribs do go on sale before christmas, they can be bought cheaper earlier in the year..

I should have done this a few months ago-thought about it- they had choice rib-eyes on special for 5.49lb

driving on xmas day- brings back memories..

the first year, my son was born, we didnt want to break family traditions for both sides of the family, so on xmas day we drove a ridiculous amount of time, to visit 3-4 different houses, (to show off the baby, and say we were there for christmas day)
the next year we stayed home.... and invited everyone else over-it was a tough decision, because of the elderly folks wouldnt drive,, but it is nuts to haul any kid around to many houses,,,and our xmas day was shot-just driving...most of the day

For Christmas eve we ordered hot food and a hero from an Italian place near my moms. They will deliver it. I am making a few dishes as well.

i could really care less about xmas, to be honest year after year it becomes less and less of a thought. if im at my parents house i will eat a standard xmas meal, boring. if im at my house ill cook seafood (some of my favorite). xmas is just a way to get people to spend their money, religion aside. ill take the time given off, but id rather just not have to deal with xmas altogether.

"Well, that's cast rather a gloom over the evening, hasn't it?"
